    About the District Authority scholarships

    The District/Authority scholarship is given to 5,500 high school graduates who did well in their chosen field.

    The Ministry of Education and Child Care sets the main requirements. Local committees decide who gets the scholarship.

    The Ministry checks if the chosen students meet the basic rules. If they do, the Ministry gives them a $1,250 voucher. Students can use this voucher to get money back for their college fees. The college must be approved by the Province of B.C. or the Industry Training Authority.

    Students have five years to use their vouchers. The expiry date is on each voucher, and you can’t get more time.

    District Authority Scholarship Program

    District Authority scholarship Eligibility Requirements: 

    To get the District/Authority scholarship, students must:

    1. Meet basic rules by August 31 of their graduation year:
      • Follow the core eligibility requirements.
      • Finish the B.C. Certificate of Graduation or the B.C. Adult Graduation Diploma.
    2. Follow local scholarship committee rules:
      • Show excellence in one of these areas:
        • Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies (like Business or Technology).
        • Community Service (Volunteer Activity, caring about local and global issues).
        • Fine Arts (Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts).
        • Indigenous Languages and Culture (shown at school or in the community).
        • Languages (External Assessments or Languages Curriculum, including AP and IB courses).
        • Physical Activity (and Health, like Athletics or Dance).
        • Technical and Trades Training (like Coding or Culinary Arts).

    Students meeting these rules get a scholarship voucher.

    How to Apply District Authority scholarships Program 2024-25

    To apply for the District/Authority Scholarship, follow these guidelines:

    1. The First Thing You’ll Do Is To Contact Your School:
      • Make sure you reach out to your school first for  information and details on how to apply.
    2. If You Are A Public School Students:
      • If you schooled in a public school or attended any, please make sure to submit your application via your school or district office.
    3. If you are an Independent School Students:
      • If you’re an independent or Attend an independent school (Group 1, 2, or 4)? You can apply through the Federation of Independent School Associations (FISA).
    4. Make Sure you Update Your  Address:
      • You are to notify or inform your high school of any address changes before graduation. The email below is for post-graduation changes, email scholarships@gov.bc.ca.
    5. Paper Vouchers:
      • In the fall, the Ministry will mail paper scholarship vouchers to recipients at the addresses provided by schools.

    Handling Personal Information:

    • Your personal information is collected under privacy laws (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Section 26(c)).
    • It’s used to verify eligibility, choose winners, and process scholarship payments.

    Step 1: Gather Information

    Make sure you come with all your important documents and details before starting your application:

    • Enter your Full name, preferred name (if any), date of birth, and personal education number (PEN).
    • Enter your Address, telephone number, and email.
    • Your High school information for graduation is needed
    • Citizenship status: Only for Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

    Step 2: Post-Secondary Plans

    • Choose or Identify the post-secondary program(s) you plan to apply for.
    • Outline your long-term career plans.

    Step 3: Area of Interest

    Choose one area from the following options below:

    • Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies
    • Community Service (Volunteer Activity)
    • Fine Arts
    • Indigenous Languages and Culture
    • Physical Activity (and Health)
    • Technical and Trades Training

    Step 4: Course Work and Extracurricular Activities

    List your Grade 11 and 12 courses and corresponding teachers/sponsors. Include extracurricular activities and their sponsors.


    Step 5: Evidence of Achievement

    Provide two references (teachers or community members). Use the attached reference form:
