About Austin Community Foundation

Austin Community Foundation will award $500,000 in scholarships from the Sheth Sangreal Scholarship Fund to 20 Central Texas students. Each student will receive a $25,000 scholarship.

The primary goal of the Sheth Sangreal Scholarship Fund is to provide financial support to students who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement in Austin and its neighboring areas. This support aims to address their economic mobility and financial requirements

Sheth Sangreal Scholarship Fund Awards Eligibility Criteria 

1. All 20 recipients recently graduated from high schools in Central Texas.
2. 90% of them are students of color or belong to two or more racial backgrounds.
3. 85% are first-generation college students.
4. Among the recipients, 65% are female, and 35% are male.

• Brian Sheth emphasized the importance of providing educational opportunities, especially during uncertain economic times.
• He expressed pride in contributing to these students’ journeys toward successful careers and hopes for their continued success.
• Daya Contreras, a Sheth Sangreal Scholarship recipient who will attend the University of San Antonio, expressed her excitement about being able to focus on her studies without the need for a part-time job, thanks to the generous scholarship. She expressed her commitment to being a positive role model for other students like herself who aspire to attend college.
• Jaleen Allen, another scholarship recipient who will attend Michigan Technological University, expressed profound gratitude for the financial support that would enable her to pursue her dreams in biomedical engineering without the burden of excessive student loans.
• This year, Austin Community Foundation has awarded a total of 199 scholarships amounting to $979,985, which includes the scholarships announced today.
• The Foundation manages a diverse portfolio of over 100 scholarship funds, making it easier for students to apply for multiple opportunities with a single application.Typically, the application process opens in the fall, and award announcements are made in the spring.

• Application(s) due: April 17
• Award notifications sent: May 22
• Regret letters sent: May 23
• Deadline to accept or defer: July 17
• Scholarship payments sent: Week of July 24
• Back-up recipients notified: Week of July 24
• Back-up deadline to accept or defer: August 18
• Back-up payments sent: Week of August 20
