About University of Pisa DSU Scholarship

You can apply for a scholarship from the Agenzia Regionale Diritto allo Studio Universitario (DSU), which is the agency for University Study Rights under the Tuscany Regional Council (Regione Toscana).

What’s Included in a DSU Scholarship:

  1. Free accommodation.
  2. Free meals at the University dining halls.
  3. A contribution to cover extra expenses such as sporting activities and books.
  4. Exemption from University tuition fees.

Who’s eligible to Apply:

Students planning to enroll in or already enrolled in a Degree program at the University of Pisa can apply, as long as they don’t already have a qualification of the same level of education.

Application and Required Documents:

  • Apply online only through Sportello Studente before the call’s deadline, usually published every July. You can apply even if you’re not yet enrolled. The scholarship is valid for one academic year, so you must reapply each year.

For Foreign Students:

If you’re a foreign student with income from abroad and wish to access DSU services (Scholarship, Services Scholarship, Grant for Disabled Students, Extraordinary Contribution, Subsidized Canteen Prices, etc.), apply online, print the receipt in your personal area, and follow the provided instructions in the admission call. You’ll need to attach a document certifying your family’s economic status and a copy of a valid ID. For more information in English, visit the DSU Toscana website and click on “Announcement scholarship” under “Bando a.a. 2023-2024.”

  • EU Students: Fill out a specific declaration available for download after completing the online application.
  • Non-EU Students from Developing Countries: Provide a certificate confirming that you do not belong to a high-income and high-status family. This certificate must be issued by Italian diplomatic representatives in your home country or the diplomatic representative body (Embassy or Consulate) of your country of origin in Italy. Remember to legalize the certificate with the Italian Prefettura.
  • Other Non-EU Students: Submit all documents translated into Italian and legalized by the competent Italian diplomatic representatives in your home country, following international provisions on legalization for family status, income, real estate, and movable assets.

Application Submission Deadline:

The annual call for DSU scholarships is published on the DSU Toscana website in July. The deadline for the DSU Scholarship application for the 2023/2024 academic year is September 6, 2023.

For the first year of application, the ranking considers only the annual family income. In subsequent years, academic merit is also taken into account.

Results and Final Ranking:

The DSU compiles a single ranking list for both foreign and Italian students. Provisional ranking lists are typically confirmed by the end of September each year, while final rankings are usually approved by the end of November. Grant allocation results will be published on www.dsu.toscana.it and accessible in the students’ personal area. There will be no personal written communication regarding results.

Incompatibility:

DSU grant recipients can also receive other merit-based grants from the University of Pisa during their first academic year, as long as the total amount received does not exceed € 6,000.
