About the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship
The Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship is a program that provides additional benefits to eligible Veterans using the Post-9/11 GI Bill or dependents using the Fry Scholarship. Here’s what you need to know about eligibility, benefits, and the application process:
Eligibility for Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship
You may be eligible for this scholarship if you meet at least one of these criteria:
- You’re currently enrolled in an undergraduate STEM degree program or qualifying dual-degree program.
- You’ve earned a post-secondary degree or a graduate degree in an approved STEM field and are enrolled in a covered clinical training program for healthcare professionals.
- You’ve earned a post-secondary degree in an approved STEM field and are working toward a teaching certification.

Full Eligibility Requirements:
If you’re currently enrolled in an undergraduate STEM degree program:
- Enrolled in a qualifying undergraduate STEM program requiring at least 120 standard semester credit hours (or 180 quarter credit hours) to complete.
- Completed at least 60 standard credit hours (or 90 quarter credit hours) toward your degree.
- Have 6 months or less of your Post-9/11 GI Bill (or Fry Scholarship) benefits remaining.
If you’re enrolled in a covered clinical training program for healthcare professionals:
- Have a qualifying STEM degree.
- Accepted or enrolled in a covered clinical training program for healthcare professionals.
- Have 6 months or less of your Post-9/11 GI Bill (or Fry Scholarship) benefits remaining.
If you’re working toward a teaching certification:
- Have a qualifying post-secondary degree in a STEM field.
- Accepted or enrolled in a teaching certification program.
- Have 6 months or less of your Post-9/11 GI Bill (or Fry Scholarship) benefits remaining.
Priority for Scholarships:
Priority is given to Veterans and Fry Scholars who:
- Are eligible for the maximum Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit (100% level).
- Require the most credit hours compared to other applicants.
Eligible Degree Programs:
This scholarship can be used for undergraduate degree programs in subjects such as agriculture science, biological or biomedical science, computer science, engineering, healthcare, mathematics, medical residency (undergraduate only), physical science, and science technologies.

Benefits: If approved, you can receive up to 9 months of additional benefits, with a maximum of $30,000. Your monthly benefits will be the same as what you receive through the Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship.
Application Process:
You can apply online, and the application typically takes about 15 minutes to complete.
After Applying:
Decisions are usually made within 30 days, and scholarships are awarded monthly. You’ll receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) if approved, which you should bring to your school’s VA certifying official. If denied, you’ll receive a denial letter.

STEMText:
STEMText is a way for the VA to communicate with you about your scholarship benefits through text messages. You’ll receive an opt-in text message and can use STEMText to verify your attendance for faster housing payments.
Other Information:
- Private school scholarship rates follow Chapter 33 rates.
- The scholarship can’t be used for graduate degree programs.
- Yellow Ribbon Program cannot be used with this scholarship.
- You can participate in the work-study program while using the STEM scholarship.
- Benefits cannot be transferred to dependents.
How to Apply for Rogers STEM Scholarship
To apply for the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship, follow these steps:
- Determine Your Eligibility:
To qualify for the Edith Nourse Rogers STEM Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Education Benefit: You are currently using or have recently used Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry Scholarship benefits.
- STEM Degree: You are either enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM), or you have already earned a STEM bachelor’s degree and are working towards a teaching certification, or you have already earned a STEM bachelor’s or graduate degree and are pursuing a covered clinical training program for healthcare professionals. Check the list of eligible degree and clinical training programs.
- Remaining Entitlement: You have either used all of your education benefits or are within 6 months of using them up when you submit your application. You can check your remaining benefits.
- Prepare:
Before filling out the application, make sure you have the following information:
- Your Social Security number
- Details about your school and STEM degree
- Bank account direct deposit information
If you need assistance with your application, consider getting help from an accredited individual, such as a Veterans Service Officer (VSO) or a Veteran representative at your school. They can guide you through the process.
- Apply:
Complete the education benefits form provided. Once you’ve submitted the form, you’ll receive a confirmation message. You can print this page for your records.
- VA Review:
Normally, the VA reviews applications within 30 days. You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or a decision letter by mail. If your application is approved, take the COE to the VA certifying official at your school, typically found in the Registrar or Financial Aid office.
- Decision:
If your application is approved, you’ll receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) or an award letter by mail. Present this COE to the VA certifying official at your school.
In case your application is not approved, you’ll receive a denial letter by mail or a claim status notification via email.
