The GSU Foundation is offering a $1,000 scholarship with an application period starting on February 12, 2024, and ending on March 15, 2024, but please note that this scholarship does not have a renewal option. About the ALAS Student Ambassador Scholarship

The ALAS Student Ambassador Scholarship was established in 2022 by the GSU Foundation in collaboration with the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) executive board and co-advisors. Its purpose is to support and empower future student leaders who are dedicated to advancing the mission of ALAS at Governors State University.

What is ALAS Mission?

The Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) is a student club committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for Latinx students and their allies. ALAS strives to promote cultural awareness, leadership development, and professional growth. Additionally, the club aims to provide mentorship and increase understanding of Latin cultures within the GSU community.

ALAS Student Ambassador Scholarship Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the ALAS Student Ambassador Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a member of the ALAS student group within Jaguar Connections & GroupMe.
  • Commit to serving as an ALAS student ambassador for the upcoming semester, which includes attending a minimum of 3 board meetings and 2 events, or have previously served on the ALAS executive board.
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • Undocumented/DACA students are eligible to apply.

Additional Application Requirements

Applicants must complete the following three essay questions, with each response consisting of a minimum of 150 words:

  1. How has ALAS impacted you during your time at GSU? Please provide specific examples of your experiences within the events and relationships developed among members.
  2. If you were to propose an ALAS event for the entire GSU community, what would it be? Include the event’s title, a description of the event activities, and the expected outcomes.
  3. How can ALAS better serve students at GSU? Provide specific examples and potential solutions.

Application Deadline:

NOTE: The application deadline for the ALAS Student Ambassador Scholarship is March 15, 2024. Make sure to submit your application and all required documentation by this date.
