About Sara Scholarship Foundation
The Sara Scholarship, established in 2012 as per Sara Sheehan’s final will after her passing in 2011, is an annual award funded by the Henry & Sara Sheehan Foundation. It’s designed for female high school seniors with plans to pursue a college degree. The selection criteria encompass academic excellence, good character, financial need, and active engagement with golf. Notably, golfing skill is not a requirement.
The Sara Scholarship provides $2,500 per year, which can be applied towards various college expenses, such as tuition, books, and board. In 2024, a minimum of twelve $2,500 scholarships will be granted. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years, totaling $10,000 throughout the recipient’s undergraduate college journey.
Eligibility for Sara Scholarship
- Be a female applicant.
- Be a high school senior intending to graduate by the end of the current school year.
- Meet entrance requirements and plan to enroll in an accredited U.S. college or university.
- Maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.
- Demonstrate financial need.
- Exhibit excellent character and active involvement in golf, regardless of golfing skill. This could involve playing golf as a hobby or on a team, working at a golf course, caddying, or working in a pro shop.

Sara Foundation Application Requirements:
Your application must include the following:
- Completed Sara Scholarship Application form.
- Copy of your official high school transcript, including Fall semester grades from your senior year.
- A personal essay (see section VI of the application).
- Copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR), including the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) or Student Aid Index (SAI). To qualify for the Sara Scholarship, you must first submit a Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for student aid.
- One letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, administrator, or an acceptable alternative from a local business or professional person.
Notification of Award:
Winning applicants will be notified by or before August 15, 2024.
Application Deadline:
All components, including the Sara Scholarship application and supporting documents, must be enclosed in the same envelope and postmarked on or before April 30, 2024.
How To Apply for Sara Scholarship:
The 2024 Sara Scholarship application is now open, with the deadline set for April 30, 2024. A minimum of twelve $2,500 scholarships will be granted to female high school seniors with golf involvement in 2024.
