Wilkes University Veterans Admission: Yellow Ribbon Program

Investing in the Education of Our Heroes

Wilkes University proudly participates in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. This initiative allows us to support post-9/11 veterans by covering tuition expenses that go beyond the highest public in-state undergraduate rate. We contribute up to 50% of these expenses, and the VA matches the same amount, ensuring veterans receive the education they deserve. The Yellow Ribbon Program is part of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.

    Who is Eligible?

Individuals entitled to the maximum benefit rate (based on service requirements) can receive this funding. Eligibility criteria include:

    1. Served an aggregate period of active duty after Sept. 10, 2001, of at least 36 months.
    2. Honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability, having served 30 continuous days after Sept. 10, 2001.
    3. Dependents eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® based on a veteran’s service under the above criteria.

    How Does the Program Work?

The Post-9/11 GI Bill® covers up to the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition. If attending a private institution, graduate school, or an out-of-state school exceeds this amount, the Yellow Ribbon Program can provide additional funds for their education without extra charges to their entitlement.

Institutions voluntarily entering a Yellow Ribbon Agreement with the VA determine the amount of tuition and fees they’ll contribute. The VA matches this amount and directly issues payment to the institution.
